- Ballalasena
- (?—1119)A ruler of the Sena dynasty of Bengal, who succeeded Vijayasena on the throne in 1108. Ballalasena consolidated the territories inherited from his father. He also promoted arts and literature. Under him, Puranic Brahmanism gained ascendancy in Bengal, which led to caste rigidities. He sent missions to Magadha, Bhutan, Orissa, Nepal, and other locations for the purpose of spreading Brahmanical ideas.
